"Journalling about your relationships is much more effective if you write down the good times as well as the bad. It is hard to write down the good times because you're too busy enjoying them to pause and reflect."

Yeah! How do you manage to write down the good times?

I used to think that if you're really having fun, you're gonna be too busy to take photos. Which was a mistake. Now I make an effort to take more photos, because they're so much fun to look at many years later, and especially since I've realised how terrible my memory is.

Mainly by consistently writing regardless of my mood. I used to only result to journaling when I was either a) very bored or b) very sad. This paints an inaccurate picture when you look back on things. Writing more regularly fills in the gaps.

On photos:

I thought the same thing! I’ve only started taking more photos since I got a new phone - the fidelity of the camera is now too good for me to ignore. But I still don’t take many, and I don’t (and won’t) have an Instagram or anything like that.

It’s a difficult balance to strike. I definitely overindex on “enjoying the moment”. I also find some of my friends who take tons of photos are happier when reviewing the pictures later than they were when they were taking them!

Haha I guess the ideal is to have a friend who is obsessive about taking photos (who isn't you!)
